Survival Strategies

The squid's more common way to attack its throwing their ink. They have an ink sac right under their digestive gland, that's where they keep it.They ink helps them for the reason that they throw it aiming the enemy's sight. So when they let it out the ink "provides" the enemy a smoke screen. The squids dont loose time, they know the smoke screen won't last that long. They swim away in matter of seconds and when the enemy gets the chance to see again the squid is gone. They just see water.

O to the M to the G!!!! A picture of a squid throwing their ink!!!!! Amazing!!!

Another way squids survive is by changing colors. It  may sound stupid for us but not for them. Another word for this is camouflage, when they see their predators looking for food (them) they quickly change their skin colors using their special cells called chromatophores. These are special because the cells allow the squid to change color & texture in a split second. In that way they camouflage to their surrounding or background.

The last survival strategy for squids is the most popular one for all animals. The running or "swimming" away strategy. I think everyone knows this strategy, dont you??? Just in case you dont here is the explanation. When the predators caught them off guard they will probably won't have time to change colors OR throw the ink. Only thing they have is to swim and while they are escaping they can probably form the ink and then throw it to their predator.
